Spinal Decompression
Flexion distraction therapy — relief for disc and lower back conditions
About This Treatment
What is flexion distraction therapy?
Flexion distraction is a gentle, non-thrusting chiropractic technique that uses a specialised treatment table to decompress the spine. It is one of the most effective approaches for disc-related pain, sciatica and lower back conditions — and it requires no forceful manipulation.
What does it involve?
The patient lies face down on a segmented treatment table that gently flexes and distracts the spine in a slow, rhythmic motion. This reduces pressure on the spinal discs and nerve roots, improves circulation to the disc and restores normal joint movement. Most patients find sessions comfortable and relaxing — many notice relief during the treatment itself.
Who is it suited to?
Flexion distraction is particularly effective for disc herniations, disc bulges, sciatica, spinal stenosis and chronic lower back pain. It is also well suited to patients who cannot tolerate traditional high-force adjusting, those recovering from spinal surgery, and patients who have not responded to other treatments. Your chiropractor will assess your condition at the first appointment and confirm whether it is appropriate for you.
